Gallery 10 [TOH] is pleased to present The Host, a work-in-progress exhibition by contemporary artist Jukan Tateishi.
This exhibition is an experimental installation in which the artist’s own body and voice are digitized and arranged within the space as a singular “function.” The venue, a room hidden within a building near Yoyogi Station, immerses visitors in a ritual-like journey in which the contours of the “individual” in contemporary society momentarily blur.
The title, The Host, refers both to “the one who welcomes guests” and “the host for something to inhabit”—like a server lurking in the depths of the Internet, or the empty body of a medium. Within this space, the artist quietly awaits your arrival.
What takes place here is not viewing, but a contract. Not conversation, but the assimilation of information.
When the “words” you carry are absorbed as nourishment by the system, whose memory remains? The Host questions the hijacking of self-portraiture in digital space and the trajectory of emotions. Its conclusion is ultimately a personal experience—one that you must witness with your own eyes.
